Bio

Ali Parizad is a Postdoctoral Associate in Advanced Research Institute at Virginia Tech. He received his Ph.D. from the electrical and computer engineering department at Southern Illinois University in 2021, focusing on new challenges in modern power systems and smart grids. During his Ph.D. Ali engaged in developing software for Ameren Electric Company in distribution system planning considering Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) to improve electric distribution network performance. In his Ph.D. dissertation, he focused on data forecasting applying Machine/Deep Learning algorithms as well as cyber-security and False data detection methods in the power system. Ali received SIU Dissertation Research Award (DRA) for the 2020-2021 academic year.

He joined MAPNA Electric and Control Engineering and Manufacturing Company, the largest and most important power company in Iran, as a Power Systems Analysis engineer in 2010. He was an Energy Management System and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) engineer as well as Commissioning Supervisor in substation and power plant projects in a joint engineering program with ABB and SIEMENS Companies. He has also done several projects in the field of real-time simulators and registered a patent on the real-time islanded simulator for industrial power plants. His research interests include applying Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Deep Learning in power systems and smart grids, distributed generation and renewable energies, power system operation and control, and applications of real-time simulators in power systems.

Ali has published three books, two book chapters, a patent, and several papers in power systems field. He currently serves as a reviewer for several academic journals including IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, IEEE Access, IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics, Power Engineering Letters, International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, European Transactions on Electrical Power, IEEE Systems Journal, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, Energy (Elsevier).
